Boats, Food and a long long beach!

Sunday Time to head north. So of to Piahia, here I parked up and got the boat over to Russell. It felt as if I was on the little boat going over to Brownsea, sadly I wasn’t. Russell was the first permanent European settlement in NZ, it also has the oldest church in NZ. Over the hill from the church is the local beach which is white sands and with clean azure water. From here I headed back and took the car to the waterfalls, these were not as impressive as Whangarei.

Next time to head n up to Mangonui, Northland. This is where allegedly New Zealand’s best fish & chips is located, for $10.20 I hoped it was. The fish was fresh bluenose and cooked fresh to order. It was a very tasty fish and the batter was crispy, thin and not stodgy, the chips were also nice if a little to much salt. All in all very lovely lunch.

From here I headed on to 90 mile beach were I took a walk and some pictures and looked at a lot of the washed up shells, lots of them intact. Heading back down to Ahipara where I was staying for the night at the YHA which turned out to be a campsite with lodges on it. well it worked out well as I had my own room with en-suite and 100mb free Wifi 🙂 This was enough to setup AmandaGoesAwayForAbit.me so im sure it will get populated with interesting story’s over the next couple of months.

After my really poor microwave pasta meal, lesson learnt, I headed down to the beach a 5min walk to see the sunset. Should mention 90 mile beach is a State Highway to 4×4’s at low tide quite funny! I setup my kit and started a time lapse which you can see 90 Mile Timelapse
