Cairns and Cheap Melons!

So first day in which I’m really properly in Cairns and so I decided I would get the 10.30am bus into town but before that I had the joy of a drunked skype conversation and this time it was not me that was on the juice, well I bloody hope not at 9am! So after the lovely skype I got the bus in and walked up and down the streets figuring out where everything was including: Art Museum, Central Library, Cairns Dive Centre, Scout from Gloucestershire and …. Yep I met a Scout here and he happened to be from the Forest of Dean, what a small world! He was in a bit of a hurry but got some good advise on Sydney of him. He’s of home to the Shire next week.

So wandered town before going to Woolworths to sort food for the next week. I got most of what I wanted and left it in a basket so I could purchase it later. I then bought half a watermelon for lunch and headed to the Esplades where everyone hangs out and get sunburnt and plays around in the big pool. I sat and enjoyed my half a melon which cost just over $1 so was about 80p bargain and quite cheap for OZ!

After lunch I wandered the Esplades [beach front area] and read some of the History information that they have there before wandering back as my little toe was starting to hurt with the small blister I got the other day from my sandals. I say beach front Cairns beach is mud flats with crocs, so there is a beach worse than Weston!

I popped back into Woolworths and bought the rest of my stuff and headed to the bus pickup back to the hostel. Here as I had a headache I assumed lack of sleep tried to have a nap in the hammocks but not very successful. I then met one of my new room mates a guy called Ben from Germany. We chatted for a while and then went to town for the ‘Free’ meal included with our stay.

Well its free for a reason, which is you get a choose of Spagbol or chilli con carney. I opted for the Spag. It wasn’t great but its food so who cares. I then headed back and tried to get sleep as Saturday I would be up early and still had a headache.
