Happy Bee’s in Ashburton

Sunday 23rd brought with it getting up around 9am and got to have a nice shower which always is nice when camping. We played around online for a while, did a lot of chilling out and headed into Ashburton late afternoon to find some tinsel for the van.

That evening involved a big family dinner with everyone including Greg’s girl. So the 4 of use later that evening with a skin full went to Greg’s house where I had some homebrew  which was good and then we all headed to town to a bar which was empty but was funny and we did get  a free hat on entry, which was also free. All in all we had a really great night.

Monday 24th Xmas eve, in the morning before we left we had a tour of the Honey house [honey processing building, Geoff and Greg are bee keepers] its a really interesting process and sounds a really interesting and fun job. We left and before we could were given lots of Honey 🙂 and also a Xmas present each. We left Ashburton around lunchtime and had the intention of going to Lake Tekapo around 2.5 hours away.

It was then when Amanda finally decide that she wanted to upgrade her camera. While she sorted some food shopping I tried all electrical shops in Ashburton to no avail to get the Camera. So why not hey a 1hr trip back up to Christchurch to Photo Warehouse to get the Camera and memory card, I also treated myself to a new 16GB SD card 🙂 early Xmas present.

Well with one happy girl we found that Subway have a drive through, sadly at 2.4m our 3m transit wasn’t going to fit. From here it was a long old drive back via Ashburton to Lake Tekapo. On route we had many windy roads but as we came over one hill we could see the wide flat plane leading up to the mountains beyond. These are the Southern Alps and are in 20’c+ very spectacular to view.

We arrived at our campsite and plugged in to power and also managed to get online at $5 for a day unlimited it was made good use of with Skype calls back to the family’s.
