Trip Down Under

So Changi Airport, Singapore I had time to get s Starbucks coffee with my $12 tax refund which was nice! I then had time to sit at the gate and watch everyone queue while sat of the free wifi and when the queue had gone just walk straight through security. On to the Plane and although I have Quantas Tickets this was all codeshared to JetStar. Well JetStar are basically like the OZ version of Easyjet. So I don’t care to much as long as they get me there, which to be fair they did, even if we were a little late leaving.

Being a Quantas Ticket I got a meal included on the plane well it wasn’t that special but I didn’t really care, I was tired and tried to sleep. The bonus was I was sat next to 2 guys from Darwin who were of the same mindset of on plane and sleep, Win. We arrived at Darwin and I have 1 hr to transfer, flip not much time I thought! However it turns out that Darwin’s Terminal is probably smaller than Bristol and so I was sat on the laptop finishing of my post 🙂

Next we got board onto another Jetstar and I let a chap have my seat and moved to the window seat as he wasn’t feeling great and wanted easy access to  the loo. We got to Cairns and I was knackered as def not enough sleep. I then had the joy of Customs which took forever as they had just one guy working on International passports. Well he let me in and then his boss behind asked to chat to me, great!

So she asked me all sorts of questions and “why am I going to Canberra, no one goes there”, I said; “well want to!” Then she asked; “Was I going to work over here?” and I said; “Nope I have a tourist visa and I’m only here 3 weeks”. Then she said, “Would I be interested in working here, ” I said no, don’t think its somewhere id like to work.” So she asked why not, I said “it’s just not somewhere id be interested in at this time”. Weird It felt like she was trying to offer me a job.

Finally she let me go! I got my bag and went and sat outside for the bus which took around 20mins before picked me up. The guy was a laugh gave some good advise, was originally from the UK and I was last to get dropped off.

I walked into Tropic Days feeling like a kid stood outside of big school on there first day. Thankfully when I walked in they were very welcoming 😀 and Laura [Irish, working here] help make me feel very welcome and showed me around everything. So I got settled in and though best check out the free WiFi and get a message home. Well would my Phone or Laptop connect, nope! So I went to find out why and the staff said it was a bit of a problem they had that sometimes some people could connect and others couldn’t, so I sat and thought about it. I then explained what I had done as a job and asked if I could have a look at their router and I thought I knew what the issue was. They said ok and 2 minutes later I was explaining to the Boss here what the issue was and that I could fix it, so he was happy and I increased their DHCP range to 200 addresses with an 8hr lease time from 100 addresses with 24hr. Well its fixed the issue and I could get online 🙂 .

I chilled out for a bit before heading to town to get my bearings. Here I got a vodafone sim [not sure the best network but oh well] for $12 as for $8 of that I converted to get 350mb which should allow me to viber not just on wifi 😀 . Next went to the chemist and got waterproof suncream, mozzie spray and some socks. I also learnt quickly that OZ is not cheap at all!

Things were hotting up, so I got out of there and escaped back to the hostel deciding to walk taking around 20 mins. I didn’t want to be out in the sun to much. It was Pizza night so for $10 all you can eat pizza + a beer. I went for it and Boss man said na free for him tonight as a thanks for fixing the Wifi. What a first day in OZ.
